France has set an ambitious goal to welcome 30,000 Indian students by the year 2030, significantly increasing from the current number of around 8,000 students enrolled for the 2023–24 academic session. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen educational and cultural connections between India and France, making France a more accessible and attractive destination for Indian students.

Initiatives to Attract Indian Students

To support this objective, France has launched a series of educational initiatives aimed at showcasing its academic opportunities to Indian students. One of the key efforts is a multi-city education fair known as the “Choose France Tour.” This event spans several major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Over 50 French universities and higher education institutions are participating to highlight the diverse range of courses and career opportunities available in France.

France is renowned for its world-class education system and holds a strong reputation for academic excellence. The country’s universities are recognized globally, offering a wide array of programs in fields such as engineering, management, sciences, humanities, and the arts. By promoting these opportunities, France aims to position itself as a leading choice for Indian students seeking international education.

Streamlined Visa Policies

To make the transition smoother for Indian students, France has introduced more flexible visa policies. One notable change is the introduction of a five-year short-stay Schengen visa for Indian students who have completed their Master’s degree or higher and have spent at least one semester in France. This new policy is designed to maintain long-term connections with Indian alumni and foster collaboration between the two countries.

This visa policy is part of a larger effort to support Indian students who have already invested in their education in France. By offering extended visa durations, France aims to encourage graduates to maintain professional and academic ties with the country, boosting long-term cooperation.

Specialized Programs for Indian Students

France is also launching the “Classes Internationales” program, specifically designed for Indian students with basic French language skills. This one-year foundation course provides tailored support, helping students bridge language and cultural gaps while gaining access to over 200 degree programs. These programs cover a wide range of disciplines, allowing students to explore various academic and career pathways.

This initiative not only makes French education more accessible but also supports career development by offering guidance and integration assistance. By addressing language barriers, France hopes to attract more students from India who may otherwise hesitate due to language challenges.

A Vision for the Future

France’s commitment to hosting 30,000 Indian students by 2030 underscores its dedication to fostering stronger educational and cultural partnerships. Through targeted programs, flexible visa options, and active outreach initiatives, the country is making significant strides toward becoming a preferred destination for Indian students pursuing international education. As these efforts progress, they are expected to enhance bilateral ties and open up new opportunities for students from both nations.
